Our last Run
On Monday 4th December we had Angus from Silva Head Torches joining us for our weekly run. Angus brought along with him a range of sample headtorches for us to use on our especially dark route. We had 21 runners turn up on a bitterly cold evening and once we were kitted out we headed out at 6.30pm towards the Valley Gardens and up towards Harlow Carr. Most of the first bit of the route was lit but once we got into the woods we really felt the benefits of 21 head torches shining brightly in the darkness. We always keep together as a group so nobody gets left behind and stop occasionally to see how everybody is. We had a couple of new runners so we always check to see if they are ok with the pace of the run etc. After reaching Harlow Carr we took a different path down towards Cornwall Road and then headed briefly back into the Valley Gardens before getting back to the shop. Alothough the run was a touch over 5km it felt like we had run a lot further…it must of been the cheeky hill in the Valley Gardens!
We are a friendly group of mix ability. Some people run ultra marathons, marathons, 10k’s or Parkrun. Some of the guys just run with us on a Monday. The group has will have its third bithday in March and we have had lots of people run with us over the last few years. Adam the Manager of the shop and Susanne who works in store lead the routes which we mix up on a weekly basis but we have had other member lead as they have found nice routes that they want to share with the group. As a store we absolutly love introducing people to the group because you see how much confidence it gives people. We have had members who stuggled to run the 5km and would walk and jog to then complete 10k’s, 10 mile races and Triathlons.
We have introduced registering before you run because when you have run five times with us you get a free Social Run t-shirt!! You can be part of the Yellow Army!
Like with Silva head torches coming to the Social Run we often have brands come down for what we call “try on” nights. Shoe brands will bring “try on” shoes for us to run in and all they ask for is feedback on what you thought of the shoes. Its a great way to see if you like a shoe before you spend the money on a new pair.We often have brands come down for what we call “try on” nights.
